January: Happy New Year!!!! The lawn is dormant this time of year. Unless you have over-seeded with rye, your lawn only needs to be cut once this month to give it a neat and clean appearance. We are also raking leaves after all the leaves have fallen. A great time to
mulch beds.
February: Spring is around the corner. Now is the time to get ready for a new growing season. We lower the mowing blades to scalp the lawn. This removes the winter kill from the grass blade. Live oak leaves are starting to fall. This is the time to schedule a Top dressing for the lawn. Anytime March thru June is a good time for Top dressing.
Top dressing benefits the lawn as it builds up the quality of the soil over a period of time, - sandy soils will be able to retain moisture better and the lawn will be more resistant to drought. Another benefit of top dressing the lawn is that it will help to even out any lumps and bumps that are present on an uneven lawn, filling in any small hollows that may develop. Top dressing also stimulates the grass to produce new shoots and results in denser grass cover which helps combat the onset of weed and moss infestation.
March: It is time to
aerate and
fertilize the landscape this month as the grass is starting to green up. This is a good time to
clean up and
install new flower beds. We will be cutting lawns bi-weekly. Spring leaves are falling so we are mulching and picking up leaves.
April thru August: The landscape is growing, lawns are thick and green. The days are long and hot, and so are are the nights.
Watch out for insects and diseases in the lawn.
September: Now is the time to start planning for the fall. We will be scheduling color changes and
over-seeding with rye seed. Rye seed will last all winter long and die off in April when the days become hotter.
November: Lawn Maintenance is at a bi-weekly basis. Fall leaves are falling, so we are mulching and picking up leaves.
December: Lawn maintenance is at a bi-weekly basis. Fall leaves are falling, so we are mulching and picking up leaves.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
